Gardaí in Abbeyfeale are investigating the theft of home heating oil from a property that had been vacant for two weeks.
When the owners returned, they found that oil had been siphoned from the tank. The incident was reported to the local Garda station, prompting an investigation.
Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran said the case serves as a reminder to secure oil tanks as winter approaches. She advised residents to consider lockable tank covers or security cages, ensure tanks are placed in well‑lit areas, and use external lighting, CCTV or alarms as deterrents.
O’Halloran also recommended that anyone leaving a property for an extended period ask a trusted neighbour to monitor the premises and report any suspicious activity.
