Canva, the Sydney‑based graphic design platform, announced on 3 November that it will cut around 1,271 positions, representing roughly 22 % of its staff.

Co‑founder and CEO Melanie Perkins said the cuts follow the first slowdown in the company’s growth in a decade and are part of a broader restructuring of how the business is organised and where teams are based.

Employees affected by the changes will receive a minimum of six months’ salary, twelve months of continued healthcare coverage and career support, and the one‑year vesting restrictions on equity will be removed for those who joined in the last year.

From January 2027, Canva plans to make Sydney the primary hub for more product teams and will require hybrid staff to work in the office two to three days a week.

The move comes as other tech firms such as Virgin Media O2, Dropbox and Barclays also announce significant job reductions.
