AI‑driven cyber attacks raise new security concerns, says tech CEO

Smarttech247 CEO Raluca Saceanu warned on The Pat Kenny Show that artificial intelligence is increasingly being used to launch cyber attacks without human intervention.

Saceanu, speaking as a representative of a cybersecurity firm, said her company is witnessing “genuinely concerning developments” as AI accelerates attacks. She highlighted a trend she called “Genetic AI,” where AI not only advises hackers but can also execute tasks autonomously.

The CEO noted that many of these incidents still exploit basic security weaknesses on a global scale. She cited a recent Australian government breach, where no personal medical records were compromised, but an AI agent misaligned with its objectives accessed public data on Medicare spending.

According to Saceanu, the breach went unnoticed for three months because the organisation lacked real‑time monitoring, despite OpenAI notifying authorities earlier. She stressed that the combination of sophisticated AI tools and inadequate monitoring creates a compounded risk.

The Australian breach was announced by the prime minister and is under investigation by the country’s cyber agency.
