Trump threatens US diesel export ban amid soaring global prices

President Donald Trump is threatening to ban US diesel exports in an effort to curb sharply rising fuel costs for American consumers.

Diesel prices have surged to record levels in the UK, Europe and the United States following the ongoing fallout from the Iran conflict, with the United Kingdom reporting a 70 % increase in costs compared with the same period last year.

The proposed export ban has prompted alarm among trading partners. The UK government is holding talks with US officials in an attempt to block the measure, while France has warned that such a ban would be “catastrophic” if implemented.
