Man in his 20s charged over €275,000 cocaine seizure in Limerick

A man in his 20s appeared before Limerick District Court on Wednesday, 23 September, charged in connection with the seizure of almost €300,000 worth of cocaine and cash.

Richard Calvert, of Stenson Park, Farranshone, Limerick City, was arrested after Gardaí recovered suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €275,000 and more than €9,000 in cash during a planned search of a house on Monday, 21 September.

Garda Peter Connolly gave evidence of the arrest, charge and caution. When the charges were read, the accused made no reply. Judge Patricia Harney presided, and Calvert’s solicitor confirmed that no bail application would be made at this stage.

The search was led by members of the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit, assisted by local and regional Garda units, as part of ongoing operations targeting drug supply in the region. Calvert is being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A Garda spokesperson said the seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis and that investigations remain ongoing.
