Dropbox announced it will lay off approximately 200 employees, representing about 9 percent of its worldwide workforce.

The redundancies will affect staff across engineering, product, design and administrative functions, according to a memo sent to employees on 28 October by co‑CEO Ashraf Alkarmi.

Alkarmi said the cuts are part of “difficult choices” to focus resources on product and growth priorities that support the company’s long‑term strategy. He added that the business remains profitable and has built momentum this year.

Impacted employees will receive 16 weeks’ pay plus an additional week for each completed year of service, alongside other compensation elements and immigration support for visa holders, in line with local practices and legal requirements.

The company disclosed in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission that the layoffs will cost between $27 million and $33 million. The filing also noted that Dropbox expects its third‑quarter 2026 financial results to meet or exceed guidance for revenue and operating margin.

In the same memo, Dropbox confirmed that CTO Ali Dasdan will depart in November, with a pro‑rata bonus of $515,000 and a lump‑sum payment of about $1.3 million.
