19th‑century shipwreck uncovered on Nantucket island after nor’easter

A powerful nor’easter storm has exposed what appears to be a 19th‑century shipwreck on a beach on Nantucket island, Massachusetts.

Local media report that the wreckage, discovered on Sunday, is believed to be part of the wooden vessel “Warren Sawyer”, which ran aground near Nantucket in 1884.

The site follows earlier finds of fragments from the same ship in 2022 and 2023, suggesting a gradual uncovering of the historic hull.

The storm also brought heavy rainfall and dangerous coastal flooding to parts of the north‑eastern United States, leaving more than 160,000 households without power.
