Donegal Town craft shop Forget Me Not to close on 31 December 2026

Forget Me Not, a beloved craft shop on The Diamond in Donegal Town, will close its doors on 31 December 2026 as the family owners retire.

The shop, founded by Brede Hyland almost 50 years ago, has been run by three generations, most recently by Ann Sharkey and her daughters Brideen and Caroline. They described the closure as “a happy final chapter” and thanked customers, friends and staff for their loyalty.

Known for a wide range of Irish crafts—including jewellery, pottery, ceramics, knitwear, linen, candles, soaps, Donegal tweed and seasonal decorations—the shop has also been recognised as a Made Local retailer by the Design & Crafts Council Ireland.

Forget Me Not has been a fixture of the town’s festive season, attracting repeat shoppers for its Christmas displays. Despite changes in fashion, shopping habits and the rise of online retail, the family maintained the character of an independent store.

Customers holding gift vouchers are advised to use them before the shop’s final day.
