A Donegal man has pleaded guilty to hijacking a silver Ford Mondeo that was later involved in a ramming incident with a Garda patrol car.
Jonathan Glenn, 43, appeared before Letterkenny Circuit Court on charges relating to 14 January 2018. He admitted to the unlawful seizure of the vehicle at Lidl, Port Road, Letterkenny, where the car was being driven by a woman.
Glenn, who has addresses in Raphoe and Derry, also faces additional counts from the same date, including assaulting the woman, causing criminal damage to the Mondeo, damaging a Garda patrol car at Stralongford, Drumkeen (estimated at €7,000), dangerous driving, and driving without a licence or insurance.
His barrister, Peter Nolan BL, instructed by solicitor Donough Cleary, informed the court that a psychiatric report confirmed Glenn’s capacity to instruct his legal team. The State’s barrister, Fiona Crawford BL, noted that Glenn could plead guilty to one count without prejudice to the others.
Judge John Aylmer ordered a probation and welfare report to assess Glenn’s suitability for community service and remanded him in custody pending the next circuit court session.
