Democratic lawmakers in the United States are preparing a list of investigations they could launch should they secure a majority in either the House of Representatives or the Senate in the 3 November mid‑term elections.

According to sources familiar with the planning, staff have begun compiling potential targets and witnesses, focusing on alleged corruption involving the Trump administration and the president’s business interests.

Virginia Representative Suhas Subramanyam, a member of the House Oversight Committee, said the party intends to examine “lucrative deals brokered by the Trump family’s vast business empire” to ensure taxpayer money is not being misused.

Items under consideration include the administration’s links to cryptocurrency firms, the international dealings of Jared Kushner, a $400 million aircraft gifted by Qatar for use as Air Force One, and multimillion‑euro defence contracts awarded to companies connected to the Trump family.

Democrats have also signalled interest in probing Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth’s conduct of the war with Iran, covering civilian casualties, munitions shortfalls and spending, as well as recent boat‑strike operations in the Caribbean aimed at curbing drug trafficking.

The White House has denied any wrongdoing, with spokesperson Olivia Wales stating that President Trump is focused on Republican majorities and “lowering costs for families”, and that Democrats “have no agenda to improve the lives of the American people, just plans to obstruct”.

Should the investigations proceed, they could involve subpoenas and additional funding for oversight activities early next year.
