Panda has been awarded the Overall Repak Resource Award, the top prize at Ireland’s National Environmental Awards.
The waste management and recycling firm beat An Post and IFF Plastics at a ceremony in Dublin’s Mansion House on Friday 23 October. Judges highlighted Panda’s leadership in environmental education and its pioneering Cleaner Bin Imaging Service pilot.
The service uses smart imaging technology on collection trucks: cameras photograph the contents of household recycling bins as they are tipped into the vehicle. When misplaced or contaminated items are detected, customers receive a “Your Bin” report with advice on correct sorting. Panda says the pilot cut recycling contamination among participating households from 50 % to 5 %.
Panda was also commended for investing in a purpose‑built facility capable of processing up to 120,000 tonnes of incinerator bottom ash each year, and a €5 million recovery line at Millennium Park that extracts valuable materials from mixed waste.
Repak CEO Zoe Kavanagh praised all winners for “huge strides and innovation” toward a more circular Ireland. An Post, named Sustainability Team of the Year, and Clare‑based IFF Plastics, the Business Recycling Champion, were the other overall finalists.
