Significant erosion has been reported at Luddan Beach near Buncrana following the weekend storm that struck Donegal.
The storm left large sections of the dune system severely eroded, exposing extensive areas of sand along the Lough Swilly shoreline. Photographs show steep, exposed faces on the dunes and substantial patches of grass‑covered sand washed away, with seaweed and debris scattered across the beach.
Sinn Féin Councillor Jack Murray, based in Buncrana, said he will work with Donegal County Council to have the damage addressed as soon as possible.
Dune systems act as natural buffers, absorbing wave energy and protecting coastal areas. Damage to these features can increase vulnerability to further erosion in future storms.
The storm, named Boelo, also caused widespread disruption across the county, including ESB power outages and water supply issues. Almost 15,000 homes were without electricity on Sunday morning, and an orange wind warning was in force over the weekend.
