Former US President Barack Obama attacked the Trump administration’s handling of the Iran war and rising consumer prices as he campaigned for Democratic candidates ahead of the US mid‑term elections.
Speaking to crowds in Ohio on Saturday, Obama said the upcoming election on 3 November was “our last best chance to at least rein in some of the foolishness of this administration”. He warned of “two years of chaos and cruelty and corruption and incompetence” and urged voters to say “enough is enough”.
Obama also mocked President Donald Trump’s recent White House redecorations, describing the result as “like Saddam Hussein opened up a Cheesecake Factory”. He linked the Iran conflict to Tehran gaining “veto power” over the Strait of Hormuz and blamed Trump for the current cost‑of‑living pressures.
At the same time, President Trump held a rally in Perry, Georgia, defending his immigration and tariff policies and claiming the United States was in a “golden age”. He acknowledged temporarily high oil prices but said they would fall, and pledged a $5,000 payout to every adult American if Republicans win both chambers of Congress.
The mid‑term elections will determine which party controls Congress for the remainder of Trump’s term, influencing the president’s ability to implement his agenda. Early voting is under way, and Trump cast his ballot in Florida on Saturday.
