President Catherine Connolly visits Arranmore Island on Donegal tour

President of Ireland Catherine Connolly arrived on Arranmore Island on Wednesday as part of the second leg of her three‑day visit to Donegal.

After meeting members of the Burtonport community, the President took the ferry to the island where a large crowd gathered to welcome her.

Connolly, who was elected on 25 October 2025, fulfilled a promise made during her election campaign to return to Arranmore if elected.

During a brief whistlestop tour she visited the local secondary school and a community‑led cooperative, highlighting the island’s educational and economic initiatives.
