A Michael Jordan jersey worn in game three of the 1998 NBA Finals has sold for $12.3 million (£9.3 million), setting a new record for Jordan memorabilia.
The jersey was part of Jordan’s final season with the Chicago Bulls, a campaign that ended with the Bulls winning the series 4‑2 and securing Jordan’s sixth NBA championship. He was named Finals Most Valuable Player in each of his six title runs.
The item was offered for sale by entrepreneur Ryan Gough and was auctioned by Joopiter, the digital auction house founded by Pharrell Williams. Joopiter had estimated a price range of $10‑15 million (£7.5‑£11.3 million).
The previous record for a Jordan piece was $10.1 million (£7.6 million) for his jersey from game one of the same 1998 Finals. The new sale surpasses that benchmark.
For context, the highest price ever paid for a game‑worn sports artifact remains Babe Ruth’s 1932 World Series jersey, which sold for $24.1 million (£18.2 million) in 2024.
