The Savoy Hotel in Limerick City has submitted a planning application to Limerick City and County Council to expand onto vacant retail premises on Bedford Row and Henry Street, creating up to 28 new hotel rooms and additional food and beverage space.

Kirkland Investments Ltd proposes to amalgamate the former Laura Ashley store (No 8 Henry Street) and the Techstar unit (No 9 Henry Street) into a new café/restaurant with a street entrance and internal access from the hotel lobby. The former Dealz shop (No 7 Bedford Row/Henry Street) would be converted into a bar, multimedia area and meeting rooms.

First‑floor space in the former Laura Ashley, Techstar and Dealz units would be incorporated into the hotel, while a new canopy would link the extension to the existing Savoy entrance and a winter garden would be added to the ground‑floor bar.

The development would rely on the nearby Q‑Park Harvey’s Quay multi‑storey car park, which provides 634 spaces, for additional parking. The Moran Hotel Group, owners of The Savoy, also operate the Red Cow Moran Hotel and Wren Urban Nest in Dublin.

Public consultation

Residents can submit comments until 28 October, with the council due to decide by 18 November. Sean Golden, Director of Policy at Limerick Chamber, welcomed the proposal as a boost to the city‑centre economy and an all‑day offering beyond traditional retail.

The expansion is seen as a long‑term investment ahead of major events such as the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor and Europride in August 2028.
