Police are investigating reports that fireworks, including bangers, were thrown at pedestrians in the Twin Towns of Donegal last night.
At around 8:30 pm in Stranorlar, a local man said an extremely loud cracker was thrown at him by passing teenagers. He described feeling “shell shocked” and reported the incident to the Gardaí, although no Garda presence was on the scene at the time. The man later confronted the youths, who he said “just laughed” at him.
There were also numerous reports of fireworks being continuously set off in residential areas over the weekend. Under Irish law it is illegal for the general public to possess, use, sell or import most types of fireworks, such as bangers, rockets and roman candles, without a commercial or professional licence.
A Garda Press Office spokesperson said no reports of the incident have been received at the office. The latest complaints follow a serious injury to a young boy in Buncrana on Halloween night, when fireworks caused injuries to his hands and face in Marian Park, prompting a Garda warning about firework dangers.
