Simon McGinley, 52, was sentenced to a further two‑and‑a‑half year term after repeatedly breaching the conditions of his release from a 21‑year sentence imposed in 2009.

The Central Criminal Court heard that McGinley, originally from Dundalk and formerly of Latlorcan Court, Monaghan, failed to notify the gardaí of a change of address as required under the Sex Offenders Act. The breach led Mr Justice Tony Hunt to reactivate three months of a six‑month suspension that had been imposed in 2023.

McGinley was first jailed for eight years in 1998 for the rape of a 13‑year‑old girl in August 1997, a case that later became known as the ‘C Case’. He received a 21‑year sentence in 2009 for raping an 86‑year‑old woman in her home.

During the hearing, McGinley appeared without a solicitor after his legal representation was withdrawn. He told the judge he was willing for the hearing to proceed. Mr Justice Hunt warned that continued non‑compliance would result in further sentences in the circuit court and urged McGinley to provide an address and comply with the notification requirements.

Following the judge’s directions, McGinley thanked the court and was returned to custody.
