A 30,000 sq ft oncology centre has been completed and handed over in Ballygrennan, Moyross, marking the first major private‑sector investment in the area’s regeneration scheme.
The facility was built by Whitebox over an 18‑month programme, delivered on time and on budget, and is now owned by Aedfica, a Belgian‑listed property investment company. Once fitted out, it will be operated by CROAL – a joint venture between UPMC and Bon Secours – to provide cancer‑treatment services for Limerick and the wider Mid‑West.
The centre forms the initial element of Whitebox’s broader vision for a mixed‑use campus at Ballygrennan, which will include a 90‑bed nursing home, a primary‑care centre and 115 new homes with a neighbourhood hub featuring a coffee shop and drive‑through pharmacy. These developments are being delivered in partnership with Limerick City and County Council and Clúid.
The site benefits from improved sustainable transport links, including a new BusConnects route, cycling infrastructure and proximity to the proposed Moyross railway station, and is adjacent to the €31 million Coonagh‑to‑Knockalisheen Northern Distributor Road scheme funded by the Department of Transport.
Whitebox chief executive Martin White said the project demonstrates that high‑quality healthcare infrastructure can be delivered quickly in the Mid‑West and provides a tangible example of the scale of investment envisaged for Moyross’s long‑term regeneration.
