INMO Calls Off Planned Lunchtime Protest at University Hospital Limerick

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) has cancelled the lunchtime protest it had scheduled for University Hospital Limerick (UHL) on Tuesday, 29 September, which was to run from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm.

The protest was to mark the start of a work‑to‑rule by senior nurse and midwife managers and linked grades, including Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Midwife Practitioners and Nurse/Midwife Tutors. Those affected represent roughly 3,500 staff across a range of settings such as psychiatry, community services, public health nursing, maternity, paediatrics, general hospitals, long‑term care and palliative care.

Related industrial action

Separate from the cancelled UHL protest, the Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA) has formally notified the Health Service Executive (HSE) that its members will begin industrial action on Thursday, 1 October 2026, following a ballot supporting action up to a full withdrawal of labour over the Public Service Agreement 2024‑2026.

In addition, SIPTU members employed in local authority and state agency sectors are set to commence industrial action on 30 September, involving work‑to‑rule and the withdrawal of non‑statutory workplace goodwill arrangements, after the government has not established a basis for negotiations on a successor public‑service pay agreement.
