Gardaí are investigating a video showing students causing extensive damage to a house in College Court, Castletroy, Co. Limerick, in the early hours of Wednesday 7 October 2026.

The footage, widely shared on social media, shows two identified young men throwing furniture and a wheelie bin through windows, smashing them. Walls were ripped apart, plasterboard littered the floor, a toilet was ripped from its base and a ceiling was torn down. A young woman appears to be recording the destruction.

Police and university response

A second video shows the property cordoned off by Gardaí, with a smashed‑out window, a mattress, a washing machine and a wheelie bin scattered on the front lawn. A bystander remarks, “those are our future doctors and lawyers.”

Gardaí confirmed they received a report of criminal damage at the location and have carried out a technical examination, with investigations ongoing.

The University of Limerick issued a statement saying it is aware the incident occurred off‑campus and that An Garda Síochána is investigating. The university highlighted its student code of conduct, community liaison framework and regular Garda patrols aimed at promoting responsible behaviour and addressing anti‑social incidents.
