Gardaí have opened an investigation after a break‑in was reported at St Anne’s Church in Cork city early on Sunday.
The 18th‑century Anglican church in Shandon was targeted at around 1.20 am, with damage reported to the donation box. A statement posted to social media said the incident forced the closure of the tower after the 10.15 am service.
St Anne’s, which dates back to the 1700s, houses five stained‑glass windows and a stone baptismal font that survived the Siege of Cork in 1690. Custodians of the church have been contacted for comment.
Gardaí confirmed they received a report of the burglary and are currently gathering evidence.
