Duke guard John Blackwell has been named the leading transfer in a list of notable men’s college basketball moves, according to ABC News.
Blackwell, a 6‑foot‑5 former Wisconsin guard, entered the transfer portal after three seasons in which he scored 1,505 points, placing him 11th on the Badgers’ career scoring list. He averaged 19.1 points and 5.1 rebounds last season, helping Wisconsin to a 24‑11 record before a one‑point loss to High Point in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Duke head coach Jon Scheyer’s “frank” message to Blackwell impressed the player, who said the coach “kept it real” and promised daily push‑ups. Scheyer described Blackwell as a “proven scorer” who can impact games without always having the ball.
A media panel selected Blackwell as a first‑team preseason All‑Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) player, and he finished second in ACC preseason player‑of‑the‑year voting behind Virginia forward Thijs De Ridder. His early performances for Duke have been strong, including 23 points in a 90‑84 win over No. 17 Kansas and 18 points in a 103‑64 victory over No. 8 Tennessee.
The article also highlighted other transfers expected to make significant contributions to their new programmes, citing players from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Oregon, Wake Forest, Iowa State, Lithuania, Arizona State, LSU, and Baylor.
