Anthropic chief Dario Amodei to dine with President Trump at White House

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is scheduled to have a private dinner with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Sunday evening, according to U.S. media reports.

The dinner will be the first one‑on‑one meeting between the two men. Trump confirmed the arrangement and reiterated his opposition to slowing artificial‑intelligence development, arguing that tighter regulation could allow China to overtake the United States.

During a recent interview on Fox News, Trump said the United States is “about maybe a year and a half up on China” in AI and warned against giving up that lead. He also dismissed Amodei’s call for a pause in AI progress, describing the CEO as trying to be “a perfect little angel.”

The meeting follows a federal appeals court decision upholding the Pentagon’s classification of Anthropic as a “supply chain risk,” which bars the military from using the company’s models. The sanction stemmed from Anthropic’s refusal in February to permit its tools for fully autonomous weapons or domestic mass surveillance.

Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson are due to meet other leading AI executives on Tuesday, as the U.S. government seeks to maintain a technological edge while weighing calls for slower AI development.
