The Mayor of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District condemned a violent incident at Letterkenny Public Services Centre after a staff member was assaulted by a man who had been granted bail only hours earlier.

Cllr Pauric McGarvey expressed support for council employees, noting that the assault, which involved criminal damage, forced the temporary closure of the building. He thanked the Gardaí for their swift response and for safeguarding staff and the public.

The accused, Philip Dodoo, 25, appeared before Letterkenny District Court on Monday and was charged with assault and criminal damage. The court heard Dodoo smashed a glass pane and punched a male staff member in the face. The attack occurred just over two hours after he was released on bail in connection with a separate alleged incident at a Letterkenny casino on Sunday.

Judge Emile Daly remanded Dodoo in custody and revoked his bail. He is scheduled to appear again via video link on Thursday 5 November.

Glenties councillor Mícheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig also condemned the violence, stressing that no circumstance justifies attacking council staff.

The Public Services Centre remained closed for the rest of Monday afternoon, disrupting services. Donegal County Council confirmed the building would reopen at 9 am on Tuesday 3 November and apologised for any inconvenience.
