US Mail‑In Ballots Processed Under CCTV and Zip‑Tie Security

BBC Verify visited an election centre in Maryland to observe how mail‑in ballots are processed and counted ahead of the US midterm elections on 3 November.

The report notes that every US state permits some form of postal voting, despite President Donald Trump’s repeated, unsubstantiated claims that mail‑in voting leads to widespread fraud.

At the Maryland centre, officials use closed‑circuit television, zip ties and election observers to secure the handling of ballots from receipt through to counting.
