A 23‑year‑old man was given a two‑year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to demanding payment of a drug…

The independent disciplinary committee has unanimously dismissed the citing case against Leinster tighthead prop Tadhg Furlong, allowing him to remain available for Ireland’s upcoming Four Nations Championship fixtures.
Furlong was cited following Leinster’s six‑point United Rugby Championship win over Munster at the Aviva Stadium last Saturday. The alleged incident involving Munster No 8 Gavin Coombes was first noted by referee Andrew Brace near half‑time, but neither Brace nor the TMO could confirm foul play at the time.
Citing commissioner Peter Ferguson subsequently lodged a complaint under Law 9.27, which prohibits actions “against the spirit of good sportsmanship, including but not limited to grabbing, twisting or squeezing the genitals.” The case was heard remotely on Thursday, and the committee ruled that Furlong did not commit an act contrary to the law.
While the complaint was dismissed, the committee noted that Mr Coombes gave an honest recollection of the incident and that the citing process had been correctly followed. A full written summary of the decision will be issued as soon as reasonably practicable.
The decision removes a potential headache for Ireland head coach Andy Farrell, with Furlong, 33, remaining a key option in the senior squad alongside Thomas Clarkson, Sam Illo and Tom O’Toole.
