Gardaí arrested nine drivers across Donegal on suspicion of driving while under the influence during the Bank Holiday weekend.
Five of the arrests were for suspected drink‑driving and four for suspected driving under the influence of drugs. The incidents occurred at various locations between Friday 23 October and Tuesday 27 October.
In addition to the DUI arrests, Gardaí detected a number of speeding offences and seized a large number of vehicles for lack of insurance, tax, NCT or because of suspected dangerous driving. One car was also seized from a learner driver who was unaccompanied.
A Garda spokesperson reminded the public to avoid careless decisions on the road, urging drivers not to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to slow down, wear seatbelts, keep mobile phones out of reach and avoid unnecessary risks.
