Gernot Döllner, the head of luxury carmaker Audi, has come under fire in Germany after joining former US President Donald Trump on stage at a rally in Georgia.

The appearance was made just days before the United States mid‑term elections, where Audi announced a multi‑billion‑dollar investment in the battleground state.

The move was condemned by the works council of Volkswagen, Audi’s parent company, which described Trump’s speech as containing “racism, sexism, transphobia [and] contempt for democracy”.

The criticism highlights the sensitivity of corporate leaders engaging in political events abroad, particularly in the run‑up to a major election.
