A 47‑year‑old woman, Ennis Dunne, was sentenced by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to two years and nine months imprisonment for robbing a laundrette on South Circular Road.
Dunne, formerly of North Circular Road, Dublin 1, pleaded guilty to the robbery that took place on 24 October 2025. She entered the laundrette, used the machines for about an hour and then approached the till, questioning a staff member about her sister’s washing.
When the staff member left to check, Dunne repeatedly returned to the till area. She attempted to seize the staff member’s iPhone, pushed an object that the staff member feared might be a syringe, and then took €410 from the till before fleeing, leaving a bag behind. CCTV footage identified her, and the footage was shown in court.
During Garda questioning, Dunne admitted to memory lapses and a drug habit costing roughly €200 a day, but denied knowledge of the weapon used. She accepted responsibility for producing a sharp object, threatening the worker and stealing the money, and offered an apology.
The court heard a victim impact statement indicating the staff member was traumatised and has since left Ireland. Dunne has 77 prior convictions, including 11 for robbery, and is on methadone maintenance with significant health issues. Judge Martin Nolan noted her desperation for money and imposed the custodial sentence, back‑dated to her October 2025 arrest.
