Gardaí have confirmed that no foul play is suspected after the body of Jack O’Donovan, a man in his 20s, was discovered at the Macroom Golf Club in County Cork.
Mr O’Donovan, a resident of Dan Corkery Place, was found by a walker at approximately 9.30 am on Friday, 23 October and was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy has been carried out, but the results are being withheld for operational reasons while a file is prepared for the Coroner.
The discovery has prompted an outpouring of sympathy in the town. Independent councillor Martin Coughlan described the news as “demoralising”, noting recent similar incidents in Waterford and Mallow and extending his condolences to the family.
Gardaí are investigating how long the body was at the location and are seeking information on who Mr O’Donovan may have spent his final hours with. The area was sealed off and CCTV footage from Macroom town centre has been collected.
Anyone who was in the vicinity of the Golf Club, Castle Grounds, Macroom between 2 pm on Thursday, 22 October and 10 am on Friday, 23 October, and who has relevant camera, mobile phone or dash‑cam recordings is asked to contact Macroom Garda Station on 026 20590, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
