The Herbert Park Hotel has withdrawn its offer to host a Special Envoys and Coordinators Combating Antisemitism (SECCA) conference organised by the World Jewish Congress.

The conference, which takes place every six months, was to accommodate delegates from the EU’s 27 member states and was being run under the Irish EU presidency. Maurice Cohen, chairman of the Jewish Representative Council of Ireland, told The Pat Kenny Show that the hotel’s general manager asked whether the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) would be involved, a question that “cooled” the discussion.

Following that query, the hotel said it needed to check with its owners. Within a day, an email was sent to the event coordinator stating the hotel could not proceed with the “event”. The hotel did not clarify whether the 70 rooms previously earmarked for the delegates were still available.

When asked for comment, the Herbert Park Hotel replied “No comment”.
