Whistleblower concerns persist despite Garda reforms
Labour TD Alan Kelly says an inquiry into recent Garda scandals is inevitable, despite Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan’s…

An autopsy scheduled for Saturday is expected to confirm that Jack O’Donovan, whose body was discovered on a Macroom golf course on Friday, died as a result of homicide.
Mr O’Donovan, a resident of Dan Corkery Place in Macroom and in his 20s, was found by a walker at about 9.30 am on Friday and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gardaí are investigating how long the body had been at the location and have appealed for information from anyone who saw anything unusual between 2 pm on Thursday, 22 October, and 10 am on Friday, 23 October. They are also seeking details of anyone who may have been with him in his final hours.
The area around the Golf Club, Castle Grounds, has been sealed off and CCTV footage from Macroom town centre has been collected. A family liaison officer has been appointed to support Mr O’Donovan’s relatives, and an incident room has been set up at Macroom Garda Station.
Gardaí ask any road users, pedestrians or anyone with mobile‑phone or dash‑cam footage of the area during the specified times to contact Macroom Garda Station on 026 205 90, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
