Darragh Darby, a 26‑year‑old man from Cois na Finne, Glenfin Road, Ballybofey, has been remanded in custody on two counts of serious assault against a woman.

Darby first appeared before a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court on Monday evening, where he was ordered to remain in custody. He later appeared via video link at Falcarragh District Court before Judge Emile Daly and was again remanded.

Gardaí, led by Garda Philip Carroll, charged Darby with assaulting a woman and causing her harm on 18 October and 19 October. The offences are charged under sections 3(1) and 3(2) of the Non‑Fatal Offences against the Person Act 1997, as amended by the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2023.

Garda Sergeant Maurice Doyle told the court that directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions are expected in early November. Darby’s solicitor requested that the State expedite the process, noting his client’s continued detention, and suggested the matter be treated as a priority.
