€229,520 granted to five Donegal Gaeltacht community groups

Five community organisations in the Donegal Gaeltacht have been approved for a total of €229,520 in capital funding.

The grants were announced by Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher TD after confirmation from Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Dara Calleary. Funding will be used for refurbishment, new construction and specialist equipment under the Community and Language Supports Programme.

Comharchumann Thoraí will receive €128,868 for the refurbishment and development of An Club on Tory Island, adding to a previous €263,500 awarded under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme. The combined support of €392,368 will enable extension of the social club, public house and restaurant, improve accessibility, energy efficiency and sustainability. Planning permission has been granted by Donegal County Council and works are set to start in the coming weeks.

Cumann Gailf Chloich Cheann Fhaola has been allocated €54,594 for a new clubhouse, bringing its total grant to €382,155. The facility will include offices, changing rooms, storage, lockers, a social area, kitchen, bar and toilets.

Coiste Forbartha an Fháil Charraigh will receive €19,390 to build a new wall and fence around the car park at Ionad Pobail Naomh Fionnáin, replacing a deteriorated wooden fence and enhancing safety.

Coiste Forbartha Chnoc Fola has been granted €17,434 to upgrade the fire‑alarm system at Ionad Pobail Chnoc Fola, a centre also used by Coláiste Ghaoth Dobhair in summer.

Áras Ghaoth Dobhair will obtain €9,234 to purchase an interactive activity table to support physical and cognitive activity for residents, particularly those living with dementia.

Deputy Gallagher welcomed the investment, noting its lasting benefit for communities throughout the Donegal Gaeltacht.
